Arthur “Art” Buchanan Jr., 92, of Sims, IL passed away Friday February 18, 2022 at Aperion Care in Fairfield, IL.
Art was born June 13, 1929, the son of Arthur Buchanan Sr. & Myrtle (Darnell) Buchanan. On January 10, 2003 he married Linda (Wilson) Buchanan, who survives.
Art owned & operated Buchanan Oil Development and also worked performing land-clearing, logging, and sawmill operations. He also had worked doing auto body repair and farming. Art was best known for being a talented vocalist and musician, who could play multiple instruments proficiently. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Cash Box Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN and performed monthly at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop Midnight Jamboree in Nashville, TN. He went by the stage name Art Ontario, and was also known as The Singing Oil Man. He was also a cast member on Bisbee’s Comedians. Art enjoyed flying, water skiing, and often visited with friends at the local coffee shop. He lived a full life and lived doing what he enjoyed.
Art is survived by his wife Linda Buchanan of Sims, IL; 2 sons: Arthur Don Buchanan & wife Maureen of Keenes, IL and Julian Buchanan & wife Nicole of Fairfield, IL; daughter Juliet Saleh & husband Dr. Abdelaziz of Cleveland, OH; 3 step-daughters: Cherie Cambron & husband Joseph of Louisville, KY; Margaret Tindall of Carlyle, IL; Carrie Gordon & husband Mark of Centralia, IL; 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Jeanie McIntire of Wayne City, IL and Pauletta Milsap & husband James of Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents, an infant daughter Linda Joy Buchanan, a sister Florence Hale, 5 brothers: Harlan Dean Buchanan, Herb Buchanan, Robert Buchanan, Kenneth “Blackie” Buchanan, and Donald Buchanan, and his good friend and manager Dale West.
A Memorial Service for Arthur “Art” Buchanan Jr. will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Kenny Rager officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow the service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
