Audrey Arlene (Barnard) Johnson

Audrey Arlene Johnson, 81, of Wayne City, IL received her new heavenly body on June 24, 2022.  Her devotion to her family and strong faith in God supported her and gave her strength and peace.

Arlene was born to the late Normie and Esther (Warren) Barnard in Wayne City, IL on April 19, 1941.  She graduated from Wayne City High School, and on January 1, 1960 she married Roger Johnson who preceded her in death on July 20, 2018.

Arlene had many occupations throughout her lifetime, but her favorite was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.  She worked at the Barnard Auction Barn, was a Wayne City School District Bus Driver for over 30 years, a receptionist, business owner, and porcelain doll maker.  Arlene was very active in the Christian ministry her entire life.  She enjoyed all kinds of crafts.  Arlene was a selfless giver and loved helping people.  She was a caregiver to many of her family.  Her strong faith and walk with the Lord began with her parents and she lived her faith before her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by one son Keith Johnson of Cynthiana, IN; two daughters: Dena (Steven) Gray of Wayne City, IL and Denita (Rusty) Holmes of Olney, IL; 5 grandchildren: Audrey Kimery, Devan Shobe, Kory (Caitlin) Johnson, Ashlee Carpenter, and Cody (Carmen) Holmes; 5 great grandchildren: Alandra Kimery, Kadin Kimery, Ava Davis, Ian Shobe, and Caroline Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her parents Normie & Esther Barnard, husband Roger Johnson, brother Lester Barnard, and daughter-in-law Mary Johnson.

A special thanks to the wonderful Skilled Care Staff at Fairfield Memorial Hospital for their loving care for Arlene for the past 18 months.

Funeral Services for Audrey Arlene Johnson will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City with Rev. Steven Gray officiating.  Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12 pm until the time of service at 2 pm.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Hopewell Cemetery.  Memorials in Arlene’s memory may be made to the FFA Alumni (note on checks memo line: “Roger Johnson Scholarship Fund”) and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
