Billy “Joe” Garner, 86, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon, IL.
Joe was born on November 20, 1935 in Wayne City, the son of Omer & Lola (McKinney) Garner. Joe was a retired accountant, having worked for The Village of Wayne City, Edward Jones in St. Louis, MO and the State of Illinois Highway Department in Effingham, IL. He enjoyed playing cards, and especially enjoyed playing Pinochle at the Wayne City Community building on card night. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and enjoyed watching the games. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Joe is survived by 2 sisters: Alice (Garner) Crook and husband Cully of Wayne City and Phyllis Clark of Salem, IL; 4 nieces: Cathy (Bob) Prange of Edwardsville, IL; Angie Caulkin of McLeansboro, IL; Glenda (Mark) Stevens of San Antonio, TX and Lori (Mike) Welcher of Conway, AR; and 3 nephews: Monty (Becky) Clark of Mt. Vernon, IL; Jimmy Garner of Wayne City, and Todd (Leandra) Crook of Sherwood, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents Omer & Lola (McKinney) Garner, and 3 brothers: Norris Garner, Raymond Garner, and Herman Garner.
Funeral services for Billy “Joe” Garner will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City with Pastor Jay Loucks officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow the funeral services at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
