Christine Jean (Gammon) Rainwater

Christine Jean Rainwater, 86, of Wayne City, IL passed away at her home on Sunday, March 20, 2022.

Christine was born October 15, 1935 south of Wayne City, the daughter of Thurman Gammon & Adeline (Thomason) Gammon.  She married Owen Lee Rainwater, who preceded her in death.

Christine worked as a secretary when she was young, and later was primarily a homemaker.  She loved sewing, quilting, art, painting, going to rummage sales, and cooking Sunday family dinners.  She was especially proud to have painted the Wayne City Indians Mascot on the wall of the old Wayne City High School building, which was proudly displayed for many years.  She enjoyed to help raise her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with friends & family.  She was a member of the First Christian Church of Wayne City.

Christine is survived by 6 daughters: Christal Johnson of Wayne City, Lisa Payne of Wayne City, Randa (Randall) Shively of Wayne City, Micah (Mike) Ince of New Orleans, LA; Neah Rainwater of Wayne City, and Ezra Rainwater of Wayne City, a son Brad (Buffy) Rainwater of Wayne City, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, a brother Jerold Gammon, and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Owen Lee Rainwater, a son Randy Rainwater, a daughter Jan Rainwater, a brother Larry Gammon, and a sister Janet Gammon.

Funeral services for Christine Jean Rainwater will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the First Christian Church of Wayne City with Rev. Richard McCormick officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5 pm – 8 pm on Tuesday, March 22 at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the Wayne City High School Scholarship Foundation and will be accepted at the church, or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.  Online condolences, memories, and words of encouragement may be left at www.youngfuneralhomellc.com
