Cyrus DeWayne Austin

Cyrus DeWayne Austin, 67, of O’Kean, AR and formerly of Wayne City, IL passed away on May 4, 2023 at his home.  Cyrus was born July 4, 1955 in Mt. Vernon, IL the son of Jabez Greg Austin & Mable Lucille (Downen) Austin.

Cyrus worked as a dairy farmer and attended the Free Will Baptist Church in O’Kean, AR.  He formerly attended Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Wayne City.  Cyrus was a quiet person who mostly kept to himself, but he was also an honest & direct person who had no reservations about sharing his honest opinion.  He had a strong work ethic and a kind heart, and he loved helping out those in need.  He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and he loved reading.  He especially enjoyed reading Westerns.

Cyrus is survived by 5 sisters: Maxine Sork of Fairfield, IL; Linda Holder of McLeansboro, IL; Sharon (Ballard) DePew of McLeansboro, Jean Putnam of Carthage, IL; Alanna Moehn of McLeansboro, 3 brothers: David L. (Louisa) Austin of North Carolina, Lloyd Eugene Austin of Arkansas, and Loy Austin of Chicago, IL; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jabez & Mable Austin, his maternal and paternal grandparents, 1 nephew, and 3 brothers-in-law.

 Funeral services for Cyrus DeWayne Austin will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Rev. Richard McCormick & Pastor Aaron Winfrey officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Young Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Pin Oak Cemetery near Sims, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to assist with final expenses and may be made to Young Funeral Home.
