Donnie Burl Smith

Donnie Burl Smith, 74, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Donnie was born June 24, 1947 in Bluford, IL to Earl B. Smith & Roberta (Withrow) Smith.  On November 11, 1967 he married Reva (Miller) Smith, who survives.

Donnie worked as an insurance claims adjuster for Hartford Insurance in Mt. Vernon, IL for 23 ½ years.  He previously worked for J.V. Walker clothing in Mt. Vernon & Herrin, and was a farmer.  He enjoyed gardening, attending auctions, tending to livestock, and spending time with his family.

Donnie is survived by his wife Reva Smith of Wayne City, 2 sons: Craig (Marcella) Smith of Wayne City and Trent Smith of Sims, 7 grandchildren: Haden Smith of Wayne City, Michaela (Charlton) Greathouse of Albion, IL; Esther Smith of Bend, OR; Lucille Smith of Wayne City, Dalton Smith of Fort Branch, IN; Keegan Smith of Sims, and Breeonna Smith of Sims; 1 great-grandchild Micah Greathouse of Albion, and 1 more on the way.  He is also survived by a brother Gary (Angie) Smith of Sherwood, AR; a sister Glenda (VerDon) Wood of Wayne City, a brother-in-law Nolan D. Miller of Florida, a brother-in-law Gary Wiedle of Kell, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his father-in-law & mother-in-law Warren & Rosa Mae Miller, a sister-in-law Fonda Wiedle, and a nephew Carrol Wood.

Funeral Services for Donnie Burl Smith will be held at 6 pm on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City with Pastor George Musgrave officiating.  The building will be open at 5 pm.  A visitation service prior to interment will be held from 1 pm until 4 pm on Sunday, September 5.  A procession to the cemetery will leave from the funeral home at 4 and interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

Memorials may be made to the Wayne City High School Scholarship Foundation and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home.
