Dorothy May "Babe" Staggs, 96, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Rosiclare Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Rosiclare, IL.

Dorothy "Babe" Staggs was born January 9, 1926 in Wayne City, IL the daughter of George & Nettie (Edminson) Smith.  She owned & operated Staggs Café in Wayne City for 30 years.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bluford, IL and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Fairfield, IL.  She formerly attended the Wayne City First United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Babe is survived by a son Leslie Staggs Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; a daughter Ann Stephenson of Wayne City, 5 grandchildren: Joey Staggs, Sean Staggs, Susan Youngblood, Annetta Beeson, and Daniel (Jessica) Stephenson; and 6 great grandchildren: Jaxson Youngblood, Jaycee Youngblood, Adlee Stephenson, Risten Kell, Ty Stephenson, and Johnathon Beeson.

She was preceded in death by both parents George & Nettie Smith, a sister Helen Shell, a grandson Leslie "Chucker" Youngblood, and a son-in-law Danny Stephenson.

Funeral services for Dorothy May "Babe" Staggs will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City, IL with Rev. Richard McCormick officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.  Online condolences, memories, and words of encouragement may be shared at www.youngfuneralhomellc.com
