Dorthey Talbert Obituary

Dorthey Jean Talbert, 89, a resident of Sims, IL passed away at the Lavender Ridge Memory Care Center in Mt. Vernon, IL on Saturday, April 4, 2020.

 

Dorthey was born on April 30, 1930 in Paxton, IL to her parents Fred Shelton and Fern (Barringer) Shelton.  On November 19, 1949 she married Glen Talbert, who preceded her in death.

 

Dorthey was a homemaker and she also served as Secretary for the Wayne City Fire Protection District for a number of years. She was a member and a former song leader at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne City, a member of the United Methodist Women group in Wayne City, and a former member of the Wayne City Ruritans.

 

She is survived by 4 children: Debbie (Paul) Young of Wayne City, David (Kam) Talbert of Sims, IL; Philip (Scott Sackin) Talbert of Laguna Beach, CA; and Ruth (Charlie) McMeen of Fairfield, IL; 7 grandchildren: Matthew (Becky) Young, Kyle Talbert, Lucas (Anna) Talbert, Kate (Jake) Feather, Kelli (John) Locey, Mark (Emily) Shreve and Zane McMeen; 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, a sister Catherine Hunter of Wayne City, a brother-in-law Donald Frazier of Mt. Vernon, IL; 2 sister-in-laws: Shirley Shelton of Wayne City and Wilma Vest of Cincinnati, OH; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Glen Talbert, 2 brothers: Fred Shelton and Dale Shelton, and 4 sisters: Ruth Feather, Bonnie Austin, Mary Frazier, and Helen Fleener.

 

In order to comply with recommended guidelines regarding COVID-19 precautions, a private graveside service will be held for Dorthey Jean Talbert by her immediate family with Pastor Bud Storey officiating.  A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.  Burial will be at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Wayne City or to the Donor’s Choice and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, which has been entrusted to provide arrangements.
