Erma Gean (Bailey) Butcher, 94, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Erma was born on May 22, 1931 in Wayne City to J. Maurice Bailey & Phoeba (Ash) Bailey. On September 18, 1950 she married Ivan Glenn Butcher, who preceded her in death.
Erma retired in 1999, and had previously worked as a cashier for Shopper’s Fair, Picway Shoes, Venture, and Target. She enjoyed making floral arrangements, decorating her home for the different holidays, and shopping. She loved her family very much and would do anything for them. She was known for being a strong-willed person who wasn’t afraid to say what she thought.
Erma is survived by a daughter Vicki (Phillip) Mikulak of Granger, IN; 4 grandchildren: Amy Gillman of Batesville, IN; Adam Butcher of Lafayette, IN; Angela Butcher of Dyer, TN; and Annette (Barry) Hines of Bristol, IN; a great-grandson Gavin Bogunia of Batesville, IN; a brother Bob (Janet) Bailey of Wayne City; nephew Randy Draper; niece Kim (Chris) Shelton; nephew Chris (Shelly) Bailey; niece Karen Haile; nephew Donald Bailey, Jr.; and 2 sisters-in-law: Nola Loker and Carrene Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her parents J. Maurice & Phoeba (Ash) Bailey; her husband Ivan Glenn Butcher; 2 sons: David Butcher and Terry Butcher, a brother Donald Bailey, Sr.; and 3 sisters: Maxine Draper, Jewell Deas, and Wanda Bailey.
A graveside memorial service for Erma Gean (Bailey) Butcher will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Steve Griswold officiating. Those attending are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
