Gregory Allen Matthews, 65, of Keenes, IL passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at his home in Keenes.

Gregory was born April 10, 1957 in Hillsboro, IL the son of Arthur Jesse Matthews & Goldie (McClain) Matthews. On June 15, 2013 he married Valerie (Garren) Matthews, who survives.

He worked as a truck driver for Dorn Trucking in Litchfield, IL and most recently for Conway Freight in Salem, IL. He loved listening to classic rock music, enjoying outdoor activities, gardening, morel mushroom hunting, and boating. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandkids.

Gregory is survived by his wife Valerie Matthews of Keenes, IL; 3 daughters: Dawn (Brian) Tackaberry of Fairview Heights, IL; Amanda Matthews of Girard, IL and Ashley Matthews of Girard, IL; a son Shawn Matthews & fiancé Holly Heyen of Girard, IL; his first wife Crystie Matthews, a step-daughter Brianna Evans of Centralia, IL; 3 grandchildren: Kyrstyn Tackaberry, Ace Bergman, and James Simmons, 5 step-grandchildren: Alyssa, Aubrey, Avery, Emma and Jayden; 2 sisters: Carolyn (George Jr.) Speed of Litchfield, IL and Shelly Hentzien of Chatham, IL; mother-in-law Mary Lou Garren of Centralia, IL; 2 sisters-in-law: Leigh Anne Garren of Springfield, MO and Sadie Matthews of Hillsboro, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents Arthur & Goldie Matthews, his second wife Cathy Matthews, a brother Dennis Matthews, and grandparents Oral & Hazel Matthews and George & Ola McClain.

A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Centralia, IL with Pastor John Willis officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL.
