Ivan Lee Young

Ivan Lee Young, 69, a resident of Keenes, IL passed away at his home on Friday, March 29, 2019.

Ivan was born August 2, 1949 to Thomas Ivan and Margaret (Hilliard) Young-Troxell in Mt. Vernon, IL.  He married Betty Louise Peddicord on July 25, 1970 at Oak Valley Church, west of Geff, IL.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, IL and  had worked as an X-Ray Technician at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  He was a member of the Oak Valley Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Rebekahs Lodge #535 in Sims.  He enjoyed gardening and he loved playing the piano.  He loved animals, especially his cats Steven and Oreo, and his dog Peanut Butter.  He cherished spending time with his grandkids, who he loved dearly. 

He is survived by his wife Betty, son Brent (Beth) Young of Buckner, IL; daughter Stephanie Young-Elliott of Fairfield, IL; 4 granddaughters:  Courtney, Callie, Carley, & Chelsea Young of Buckner, brother William D. (Sharon) Young of Fairfield, IL; aunt Marie Rutger of Fairfield, IL; sister-in-law Beth Young of Fairfield, IL; step-sister Marie Shawback, several nieces & nephews, and special friends Carole Lane of Dix, IL and Kathy Taylor of Fairfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Burl Ray Young, step sister Helen Windland, step father Maynard Troxell, and son in law Michael E. Elliott.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Oak Valley Church near Geff, IL, with Pastor Richard Brown officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of service at 1 pm on Monday at the church.  Burial will follow at Round Prairie Cemetery near Geff.  The Young Funeral Home of Wayne City is honored to be providing the arrangements.
