Jay worked as a logger for many years, which was what he loved to do. He started working in the sawmill when he was 10 years old and quit school at the age of 14 to work there fulltime. He then went on to become an experienced lumberjack and made that his lifelong profession. He had previously worked in New Mexico in the oil fields for Aztec Well. Jay was known for his kind heart, and he enjoyed helping others. He was a very friendly person who never knew a stranger. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, and he loved fishing and practicing bow archery. Every fall, he would cut & process firewood, which he would sell. He also loved music and enjoyed playing guitar. He also enjoyed watching Westerns. Most of all, he loved visiting with his friends and family.

Vernon, IL; Connie Sue Hurley of Jefferson City, MO and Luellen of Texas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
