Louis Ray Helsing, 62, a resident of Wayne City, IL passed away after a month-long battle with COVID-19 on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Louis Ray Helsing was born on July 23, 1958 in Chicago, IL to his parents Nuncio Louis Raffa and Linda Helsing (Dedman), both preceded him in death.
Louis worked at Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon, IL in the bead assembly department and was a veteran of the US Army. He loved spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle, working out, and detailing vehicles. He was a member of the Crusaders Motorcycle Ministry and a member of the Orchardville Church in Orchardville, IL.
Louis is survived by 3 sons: Nathan Ray Helsing of Wayne City, Christopher Lee Helsing of Greenville, IL and Louis (Brooke) Helsing Jr. of Centralia, IL; 4 daughters: Brittany (Michael) Piper of Wayne City, Lindsay (Jimmy) Helsing-Green of Wickliffe, KY; Brandy (Chad) Nelson of West Frankfort, IL and Jennifer Hinkelman of Missouri, a sister Susan (Steven) Thompson of Michigan, 14 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by both parents, a daughter Amber Helsing, and a sister Kathy Parkhill.
Funeral services for Louis Ray Helsing will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with George Thomason officiating.
Visitation will be from Noon until the time of service at 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, IL. Military rites will be performed at the graveside by the American Legion Post 141 Honor Guard of Mt. Vernon, IL. All those attending services are required to wear a mask and practice all recommended safety guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a care fund for Louis’ son Nathan Ray Helsing and may be made to the care of Brittany Piper, and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL.
