Marcia Mae Melton, 98, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL.
Marcia was born May 24, 1923 in Monmouth, IL to Carl Everett Chambers & Gertrude Margaret (Rickert) Chambers. On May 21, 1948 she married Harvey “Burl” Melton, who preceded her in death.
Marcia worked as a Seamstress at Wayne City Manufacturing in Wayne City and at Sexton Manufacturing in Fairfield, IL. She later worked for Harlan Simpson in Fairfield, IL and Geff, IL. She was a member of the Keenes Christian Church in Keenes, IL and a former member of the Wayne City Christian Church. She was an active bowler, and was a member of the Women’s Bowling Association. She was also a member of the Illinois Ladies Garment Workers Association. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, rock hunting, gardening, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Marcia is survived by a son Bill Marsh & significant other Liz Adams of Centralia, IL; 3 daughters: Peggy Mays of Wayne City, Vickey & husband Bill Shaw of Wayne City, and Connie Melton of Wayne City; 13 grandchildren: Eddie Marsh, Sheila Matmiller, Adam Mays, Derek Mays, Erin Nicholson, Sven Olsen, Tom Cannon, Tricia Shehorn, Robert Cannon, Stacy Austin, Joe Cannon, Tanya Melton, and Terra Hutchcraft; 33 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren with one on the way, a neighbor and dear friend Dez Milner, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both parents, stepfather Fred Newman, husband Harvey “Burl” Melton, 3 grandchildren: Jeff Young, Bill Cannon, and Kenny Hutchcraft, and a brother Paul Edward Chambers.
Visitation for Marcia Mae Melton will be held from 10 am until 12 noon on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Keenes Christian Church in Keenes, IL. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12 noon at the church with Tim Coonce officiating. Interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. Memorials may be made to the Keenes Christian Church and will be accepted at the church, or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, which is in charge of arrangements.
