Murvin Lee McCord, 88, a resident of Wayne City, IL passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at his home. Murvin was born on March 9, 1933 in Keenes, IL to his parents James William “Bill” McCord and Stella (Keen) McCord. On July 4, 1953 he married Virginia (Edminson) McCord, who survives.
Murvin was a farmer for many years, and previously worked at Caterpillar in Joliet, IL. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, who served overseas in the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Keenes Missionary Baptist Church in Keenes, IL.
Murvin is survived by his wife Virginia McCord of Wayne City, a son Leon McCord of Wayne City, a daughter Lea (Don) Sneed of Bluford, IL; 3 grandchildren: Adam McCord (and Nikolaus Sneshkoff) of Colorado Springs, CO; Sarah (Derek) Moore of Ina, IL; and Amy (Andrew) Hermes of Dix, IL; 4 great-grandchildren: Natalie McCord, Carson Wayne Moore, Claire Moore, and Cora Moore, a brother Billie McCord of Tennessee, and a sister-in-law Betty McCord of Cisne, IL.
He was preceded in death by both parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Funeral services for Murvin Lee McCord will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 2 PM at the Young Funeral Home in Wayne City with Merle Fullerton and Matthew Barner officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM – 8 PM on Thursday, August 5 at Young Funeral Home. Interment will be at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City with military rites performed by the American Legion Post #141 of Mt. Veron, IL.
Memorials may be made to the Keenes Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home.
