Robert Gene McKinney

Robert “Bob” Gene McKinney, 94, of Bluford, IL passed away on Saturday May 15, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  He was born January 15, 1927 at Keenes, IL to his parents Tilford & Lizzie (Holthouse) McKinney.  On March 28, 1947 he married Betty L. (Bruce) McKinney, who preceded him in death.

Bob worked as a farmer, and was a US Army Veteran.  He was drafted into the Army on April 12, 1945 and served in Germany during World War 2.  He enjoyed going to horse & cattle auctions and horse pull competitions.  He was a member of East Hickory Hill Baptist Church in Bluford.

Bob is survived by a son Kelly (Carla) McKinney of Wayne City, IL; 9 grandchildren: Tonia (John) White, Kelby (Gara) McKinney, Canaan McKinney (and Erin), Stephanie McKinney, Neil (Lori) McKinney, Cheryl (Jim) Lake, Denise (Ron) Barbee, Jason (Jenny) McKinney, and Kadie (Stephen) Winesburgh.  Several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Betty L. (Bruce) McKinney, 2 sons: Dannie McKinney and Dennie McKinney, and 8 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Gene McKinney will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Donnie Rector officiating.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 18 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Young Funeral Home.  Burial and military rites will be at Salem Mateer Cemetery, west of Wayne City with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #141 of Mt. Vernon, IL.
