Robert “Bob” M. Gillespie, 90, of Bluford, IL passed away on May 8, 2021 at 9:27 pm at his home. He was born July 26, 1930 in Bluford, IL to his parents Addison and Marie (Guftafson) Gillespie. On November 14, 1951 he married Darline (McKinney) Gillespie who survives.
He worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 21 years and was an owner/operator for Valley Steel Products for 21 years. He worked part time for the Bluford Ice Plant for 17 years and served as Trustee for the Village of Bluford for 8 years. He was a Teamsters Committeeman for 6 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 2 years active duty and 6 years in the Reserves.
Robert is survived by a daughter Belinda (Anthony) Geremia, a son David (Ronda) Gillespie, one brother Jim Gillespie, and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents, a sister, a brother, and a grandson Travis Henry.
Funeral services for Robert “Bob” M. Gillespie will be held at 9 am on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Rob Hulbert officiating. Visitation will be held from 8:30 am until the time of service at 9 am on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Thomason Cemetery, with Military Rites provided by the American Legion Post #141 of Mt. Vernon, IL.
