Sherman Weaver Obituary

Sherman Ray Weaver, 74, of Fairfield, IL passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home.  Ray was born in Fairfield, IL on September 15, 1948 the son of Bernie Eugene and Myrtle Ida (May) Weaver.  On August 14, 1970 he married Mary L. (Breeze) Weaver, who survives.

Ray was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served as a Military Police Officer at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Missile Base in Chestertown, Maryland.  He worked as a specialist welder at Blaw Knox Construction Company in Mattoon, IL for 35 years.  He then owned & operated Sherman Weaver Digital Photography & Sign Company until he retired.  He was also President of the Blaw Knox Employees Credit Union, a member of the Neoga, IL Chamber of Commerce, a member of several classic car clubs, and a member of the Arrington Prairie Missionary Baptist Church. 

Ray was an avid golfer, and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.  He also enjoyed helping create Facebook pages for various organizations and interests.  He loved his family very much, and he will be greatly missed.

Ray is survived by his wife Mary L. Weaver of Fairfield, 2 daughters: Emily (Chris) Clayton of Collinsville, IL and Deana (David) Lee of Ferryville, WI; 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 2 brothers: Marvin (Tammy) Weaver of Enfield, IL and Darrell (Sherri) Weaver of Cisne, IL; 2 sisters Nila Harshbarger of Sesser, IL and Gale (David) Buchanan of Fairfield, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents Bernie & Myrtle Weaver.

Funeral services for Sherman Ray Weaver will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Ed Windland officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Young Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Dickeyville/Arrington Prairie Cemetery, north of Sims, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dickeyville/Arrington Prairie Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL.
