Thomas Voyles Obituary

Thomas Allen Voyles, 76, of Greenville, IL and formerly of Wayne City, IL passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022 at his home in Greenville.

Thomas was born on June 3, 1946 in Bluford, IL the son of Louie James Voyles and Mattie Josephine (Hinton) Voyles.  On October 15, 1969 he married Muriel Kathleen Voyles, who survives.

Thomas worked for Monsanto as a chemical operator, pipefitter, and a welder.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served as an M-60 gunner during the Vietnam War.  Thomas was a member and a deacon at Bailey General Baptist Church in Wayne City.  He loved his church and loved to fellowship with those who attended.  He was also a volunteer for the Union Grove Association, helping with the youth church camp program.  He loved to play sports, with baseball being his favorite – which he excelled at.  He coached summer little league baseball and loved watching his grandkids play little league and high school baseball.  Most of all, Thomas was an outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting and just being outside in the woods.  When he was younger, he hunted raccoons with his brother David and his hunting dogs.  He also loved to fish, and he taught his grandchildren how to fish.  He loved gardening and was known to give away extra produce from the garden to many people over the years.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thomas is survived by his wife Muriel Kathleen Voyles of Greenville, IL; 3 daughters: Lisa Marie Wekenborg (and husband Mark) of Eureka, MO; Margaret LeAnn Williams of Greenville, IL; and Maureen Louise Zamenski (and husband Andrew) of Wildwood, MO; 8 grandchildren: Scott (Kristin) Voyles, Zachary Thomas Voyles, Madelyn Zamenski, Austin “A.J.” (Jayla) Scott, Kaylan Marie Wekenborg, Andrew Charles Wekenborg, Joseph Lee Scott, and Anna Grace Zamenski; 3 great-grandchildren: Kensington “Kit” Briar Voyles, Daviney Blaire Voyles, and Jensen Bristol Voyles;  2 brothers: William David Voyles (and wife Barbara) of Wayne City, IL and James Louie Voyles of Alton, IL; 2 sisters: Mary Lee Hooper and Kimberly Walker, both of Collinsville, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by both parents Louie & Mattie Voyles, 2 sisters: Margaret Sue Knecht and Anna Louise Tourville, and a brother Bobby Joe Voyles.
